How long do extensions last?

The human hair extensions can last up to 1 year for blond hair and 2 years for brunette depending on the hair quality.  The hair has to be re-installed every three months and it takes 2-6 hours to put it.  The removal time takes 30 -60 minutes depending upon the type of extension and the length of time the extensions have been in.

How do I take care of my extensions?

Overheating is one of extension hairs’ biggest issues.  Be careful not to use too much heat when using a blow dryer or curling iron.  It is best to let your hair dry naturally.  Brush your hair gently to prevent damage.

Paul will provide each of his clients with a formal written maintenance plan depending upon the type of extension used.  It is extremely important to follow this plan to maximize the beauty and longevity of your extensions.  Products used to wash and style the extensions are also extremely important.

What is the difference in extension hair?

The human hair used in the hair extension industry comes in different qualities.  A good rule of thumb is “you get what you pay for, the lower the price of your hair extensions the lesser the hair quality’.

The highest quality hair will still have all of its cuticle perfectly aligned in the same direction.  IF the cuticle scales are not facing the same direction, hair will interlock like Velcro, which will lead to matted and tangled hair.

Cheaper hair is very often placed in an acid bath which completely destroys the cuticle.  To restore the shine, this hair is covered with a silicon layer.  It looks beautiful but after a few washes, the silicon is removed and the hair mats, tangles, and becomes dry.

The majority of the hair sold today is non-cuticle hair, which is less expensive.  So if you want to spend less money on your hair extensions, this could be okay for you as long as you realize that this hair will probably start matting, tangling, and become dry a lot sooner than a higher quality hair.
